Asian leopard cats like this one at the @ACCB_cambodia are not much larger than a house cat. They’re nocturnal creatures, hunting for small animals at night and sleeping in tree cavities during the day. These little cats are solitary and quite shy, fleeing from humans immediately upon sight. For centuries, they were hunted for their pelts, meat and for the pet trade. In the 1980’s hundreds of thousands of leopard cat skins were exported each year. Thankfully leopard cats are now protected through CITES so this kind of commercial trade has been reduced greatly, though not completely.
The ACCB, or Angkor Center for Conservation of Biodiversity, aims to rescue and rehabilitate Cambodian wildlife, promote breeding programs for threatened species, and educate communities in order to increase awareness and protection of local wildlife.
