#LiveLikeARockefeller: ‘This piece is a celebration of the Rockefellers’ collecting legacy,’ says Tristan Bruck, our Asian Art specialist, of a gilt-bronze figure of Amitayus.

The figure was first owned by Laurance S. Rockefeller, and then purchased by his youngest brother David in 2004. Both were greatly influenced by their mother Abby and elder brother John, who were passionate collectors of Asian sculpture.

‘Amitayus is the deity of long life,’ explains our specialist. ‘This figure seems to have served David well, considering he lived to be more than 100 years old.’
