The World at Night project
Atacama Desert in morning twilight. A pitch-black night ends in the blue hour. The Southern Cross and Carina Nebula are still visible in the sky. On Earth, it’s the end of working hours for astronomers on Cerro Paranal observatory as they leave the control room to their day-sleeper rooms.
Paranal is home to one of the world’s largest telescopes. An advanced technology combine the light of four 8-meter telescopes into one. On imaging assignment for @esoastronomy I visit these desert observatories every other year. I have seen some of the most pristine night skies in Atacama, Chile.
