Thankfully my mother has now recovered from stage 3 bowel cancer and I’m beyond elated to have her on the mend. I’ve been silently suffering from increasingly similar symptoms for the past year and today I booked in for a colonoscopy. It’s been discovered that I have fibroids on my uterus which may explain the constant pain, but as part of the prep before my colonoscopy I have to stop taking iron supplements and avoid fibre which as a vegan is incredibly difficult as I’m only allowed white bread and white potatoes without skins for two days before, followed by water the final 24hrs and fasting on the day whilst also taking bowel preparations - I feel sorry for my ceramics! I feel there needs to be more awareness, information and advice accessible to the public about digestive health. I’ve always presumed my pain was from irregular periods not my bowels despite leading a clean and healthy lifestyle, I’ve taken all steps possible to minimise symptoms or negative reactions. Fascinatingly my persistently inflamed lymph nodes may be down to the fact that I have tattoos which I’d never heard of before but I’m now aware of.
