Photo by @jonathan_irish // Watching humpback whales emerge from the deep blue sea, out of the darkness and up for air, is a breathtaking sight. You first start to see the white on their fins, as a rough outline of the shape of a whale starts to form. But that’s all you can see...just the shape of something very deep. Sometimes you can hear their singing...an ethereal sound of a large animal calling out to potential mates in rhythmic frequencies. Then, ever so slowly, the form starts to become larger and more defined as they continue their rise from the deep. It’s about this time when you realize just how big they are...the full breadth is almost unimaginable to a small human. And, like in a silent dream, they continue to rise before you to take a breath, one eye keeping you in focus to make sure you are not a threat. This is their world, and you are but a minuscule speck in this blue universe. It’s quite a humbling and beautiful experience.
