The White House inexplicably flew the American flag at full-staff today after lowering it on Sunday in honor of #JohnMcCain. The visual of the flag raised high made the rounds on social media, drawing the ire of Trump administration critics and several veterans’ groups. Late this afternoon, it was finally lowered again. In a statement that began by highlighting their past conflicts, President @ドナルド・トランプ expressed his respect for Senator #JohnMcCain, adding that he’d ordered the #WhiteHouse and all public flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of the 81-year-old Vietnam War hero and 2-time Republican presidential candidate. “Despite our differences on policy and politics, I respect Senator John McCain’s service to our country,” the president said, “and, in his honor, have signed a proclamation to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff until the day of his interment.” @nytmills, our White House photographer, took this photo earlier today.
