Photograph by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz Euphrasia poplar trees tap into shallow ground water near the Talimu River, as it sinks into the sands of the #Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang, China. Scientists call these trees #diversifolia, as the mature trees have two shapes of leaves, some round like an aspen, and some elongated like eucalyptus, yet they both turn yellow at the same time in mid-October. #DesertAirBook
