With little electricity and no combat pay, 5,600 American troops are waiting on the U.S. southern border for a migrant caravan of Central Americans. The midterm elections are over, along with President #Trump’s rallies warning that the caravan amounts to a foreign “invasion” that warrants deploying up to 15,000 troops. But the soldiers are still going through the motions of a mission that appeared to be set by a commander in chief determined to get his supporters to the polls. Officials at the Pentagon have privately ridiculed the deployment as an expensive waste of time and resources, and a morale killer to boot. Instead of playing football with their families this past Veterans Day weekend, troops painstakingly webbed concertina wire on the banks of the #RioGrande. Come Thanksgiving, they most likely will still be here. @tamirhasacellphone took this photo of troops eating at Base Camp Donna in #Texas.
