スミソニアン博物館のインスタグラム(smithsonian) - 5月20日 20時17分
Hi everyone! We’re @smithsoniangardens and we are taking over the Smithsonian Instagram this week to introduce our inaugural campus-wide exhibition, “Habitat,” open now through December 2020.
For the first time in our nearly 50-year history, we are showcasing a single theme to tie together multiple exhibits in gardens and landscapes across the Smithsonian campus in Washington, D.C.
Habitats provide homes for all living things. Without habitats, life would cease to exist. The plants, animals and other organisms within a habitat have adapted to each other’s presence over time, creating a delicately balanced ecosystem.
This is our “Life Underground” exhibit, which discusses the complex network of organisms in a habitat hidden underground and features Foon Sham’s “Mushroom” sculpture.
Fun(gi) fact: Mushrooms are more closely related to animals than plants. Plants generate their own food through photosynthesis, but mushrooms can’t.
