Had my first real “bad” day of training in quite some time. Feelin a bit beat up this week & it caught up to me today, which just happens sometimes. Still got some decent work in, my body was just fighting me the whole time. When that happens I like to do some extra accessory work that I ENJOY so I finish my session with a positive attitude. It helps eliminate any mental carry over into the rest of my day & gets me out of my funk a little quicker so I can recover & come back the next day with the right mind set. (Shouts to the obsessive people like me who lay in bed at night & think about every missed lift if they don’t change their attitude)

SO my funcessory choice usually turns to testing old gymnastics things that used to be a walk in the park. If you remember TOPs testing, we could do consecutive straddle floor presses FOR DAYS. Turns out being 5” taller and about 60-70lbs heavier (I’ve gained 40 from lifting alone lmfao just imagine) makes them HARD. Could barely get my butt off the floor with the cheater half candle stick for momentum (vid 2 L O L), so did sets of 5 standing presses with minimal jump (My old coaches are cringing I know). Gonna start adding work to these weekly for no other reason than I want to see if “big” me can eventually get ONE from seated up and down. Parallettes are still do able at least. Feat. A very sub par set of my snatches that my body strongly disagreed with :,)

Nah this coach of urs is not cringing... trust me we can all relate! I think it’s great u still try that stuff! It’s never as easy as when you were young and little even though ur a heck of a lot stronger then ever now. U’ll no doubt get it back if u work it.... on a good day I can still do one from straddle L after two kids ? isn’t it cool gymnastics still has a way of making u happy after all these yrs!?

Bless you! We all know what its like to have an off-day at the gym, whether it is due to either some degree of physical or mental incapacity, or a combination of both. Be kind to yourself and recognise your achievement in having continued to show up when you could have just stayed at home ✌

Thx for this. I had a bad training day today and am super obsessive about my lifts as well. Oddly enough I also did some hand stands to try and have fun. It’s refreshing to hear this from you and to know you have bad days and are human enough to talk about them. ?? Keep fighting! ?

Please share drills as you progress back into your gymnastics moves! I did straddle to press the other day & it was so hard... you make it look way better than I did lol! Thanks for sharing.

What an amazing idea. Do fun accessories to eliminate negative mental carry over. That shit is real and it sucks. I'm def doing that next time I have a shitty training sesh

I literally always do these just for the heck of it and to keep up with old skills. I spent 15 years of working hard in cheerleading, I don’t wanna lose all my skills lol
