‘GLAMORAMA 2020’ An essay by @breteastonellis.
‘In 2019 young people are favoring brands not because of their style necessarily but because they align with their values. In-fact values are the new style - which is an awful new stance because if you’re avoiding an artist just because of their ideology then this is, of course, an attack against the artist - which seems to be happening everywhere else in the culture. An entire generation is now pushing ideology and letting it subsume aesthetics - the true meaning of what it means to be an artist, the opposite of what it means to simply be an ideologue. This reaction and embrace sends the wrong message to artists and, by extension, disruptors - it says shut up, don’t express yourself that way, there are rules you need to follow or else you’ll offend us and therefore we’ll ignore you.
This is a progressive ideal that is in -fact its own trap - something regressive. Disruption is an important element for allowing any medium to breathe and grow and move forward and flourish - without disruption there’s no progress.’ Tap the link in bio to read the full essay by #BretEastonEllis. I agree to an extent. Art always pushes boundaries and makes u feel something. It makes you feel, happy, sad, uncomfortable. It’s there to free the mind and it will offend. But just because it offends does not mean it needs to ignored. Opinions are people’s, the artist behind it may have certain views, Like I have my own. It be sad to allow that form of bigotry to ruin something so beautiful like art.

Of course we'll ignore you if you are using modern slavery to create your 'art', or when you support animals to be killed brutally just so you can sell their fur. Is this man really trying to convince us to ignore all these things and give priority to aesthetics?

We believe you can do both. Why not care about the aesthetics AND our environment also? Why do we have to choose ONE?? You can be environmentally conscious and fashionable... and if you can’t evolve with the times, you don’t deserve to.

Lol wealthy whites in fashion do nothing but consume the street fashion of people of color. It seems that’s the only new shit fashion has goin but it’s always been happening since like decades ago ??♀️

?Totally agree! With all your recent articles! Finally someone is brave enough to express this thought. It feels like we live in times of mediocrity’s triumph.

So we should support Dolce&Gabbana’s and Gucci’s Italian White Supremacy? I don’t get it... ?
