In-fact values are the new style - which is an awful new stance because if you’re avoiding an artist just because of their ideology then this is, of course, an attack against the artist - which seems to be happening everywhere else in the culture. An entire generation is now pushing ideology and letting it subsume aesthetics - the true meaning of what it means to be an artist, the opposite of what it means to simply be an ideologue. This reaction and embrace sends the wrong message to artists and, by extension, disruptors - it says shut up, don’t express yourself that way, there are rules you need to follow or else you’ll offend us and therefore we’ll ignore you. This is a progressive ideal that is in -fact its own trap - something regressive. Disruption is an important element for allowing any medium to breathe and grow and move forward and flourish - without disruption there’s no progress.’ Tap the link in bio to read the full essay by #BretEastonEllis.
