High on the top of this list of unexpected locations are the remote parts of the Pacific Northwest—specifically Alaska. The Aleutians are comprised of a string of 167 islands that span the gap between Alaska and Russia. They’re about as remote as it gets. The few locals who live there can trace their history back 8,000 years. They rely on hunting and fishing for food and graciously offered me an oily slab of seal blubber to eat soon after my arrival (which would have been rude to turn down). Many nights were spent around a fire or table learning about their ancestors and the traditions of their community. By day, we spent our time searching for breaks via ATVs, often taking treacherous trails to hidden bays. With a topographic map and some help from a native Aleut hunter, we scored some of the best cold water barrels I have ever seen to this day.」7月16日 7時00分
