I was such a cheerful happy-go-lucky little girl but suffered terribly at the hands of bullies throughout my entire school education to the point where I could no longer make eye contact or engage in conversation - kids (and adults) can be so cruel! I became a girl who tried to blend in and go through life unnoticed, never part of the popular group but always an easy target to bullies because I was too scared and intimidated to fight back or stand up for myself. As a teenager I struggled with my identity, absolutely detested my body and didn’t know who I was as a person because I didn’t feel that I belonged anywhere and all that I could do to make myself feel better was change everything about my appearance - which caused the wrong people to like me for totally the wrong reasons. As a young woman I then spent my entire adult life engaged and miserable in a very unhealthy relationship and I didn’t know any different because I’d only ever been treated badly. Yet approaching thirty as a mother of two gave me the affirmation to be my true self, to acknowledge what pleases me and to accept the skin that I am in, being unashamedly myself and to say exactly what’s on my mind always.
