Follow ➡️ @cnnclimate ➡️ This is the first Icelandic glacier lost to climate change. On Sunday, scientists memorialized Okjökull, known as Ok for short, with a plaque that contained a dire warning. "Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years, all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and know what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it," the plaque reads in English and Icelandic.
If glaciers continue to melt at the current rapid rate, it will pose a number of hazards for the planet, geologists say. Here are some of the potential hazards:
▪️People could be displaced
▪️Some remote island nations would be at risk of disappearing
▪️Water supply could diminish
▪️Food could become scarcer
▪️Coastal communities would be more susceptible to flooding,
▪️Trade could be impacted

Some of these comments are off the wall! Climate change is real. Most scientists around the world agree humans are a significant impact. Yes, there will always be those who disagree. Some also still hold tightly to the belief that the world is flat and the round planet idea is just deep state propaganda. The earth is not flat - most scientists agree. Humans impact climate change - most scientists agree. The big difference here is that inaction on the flat earth belief has little consequence whereas inaction on climate change could kill all of us.

Each and every government in the world claim to do something , they all care about the money and creating war! For the first time we are all hit in the world by something that needs to be stopped! For once we all need to combine together and do our part for climate change and that is cleaning our oceans and lakes, cleaning our air from fossil fuels and harmful gases! I am no expert but I am sure if we all combine resources and effort we can all make a change and lead for a better future for mankind!

Hey CNN runaway global warming that increases exponentially is not a problem for future generations and the weak and the vulnerable and the poor it's for you right now and if you don't face it then your wives and children and you yourselves will play a direct and horrific price!!!😎😎😎

And they recently pulled down the Glaciers are Disappearing signs at Glacier National Park...because they are growing. Glaciers come and go. It wasn't that long ago that my house would have been 2 miles under ice. Great job ramping up the hysteria though.

I know about the effects of Global warming and humans contribution . I wonder though if it could be they cycle of Ice age periods as well ? Just curious . @cnn In not way do I doubt our impact on the Environment but I am still curious .

All it is , is that we are going through weather patterns as we did millions of years ago. Has nothing to do with humans nor anything to do with it. Its like trying to prevent an earthquake.
