I thrived performing in front of a big crowds. It was easy for me to find that flow state. • I should sit down and try to figure out the number of competitions I actually competed in because I think even I would be astonished at the number. I competed in every single competition I could get on hands on; not just in my region but across the nation. I wanted as much experience as I could get my hands on. Local competitions, regionals, divisional, nationals, youth worlds, pan American championships, and world cups. They made up my life; these experiences built me up, broke me down, left me ecstatic and left me crying. • I’m so excited to see @usaclimbing stepping up to support the US Team the way they are able to these days. This is something that my many years on the US Team was lacking - the support and coaches who were available to help. • After over 15 years of representing the US in competitions my psych dwindled. It takes a huge amount of dedication to gym climbing to perform well in competitions and I got burnt out. Instead, I wanted to focus on pushing my limits outdoors, and creating different experiences and memories for myself. That’s the beauty of climbing; it is so multifaceted! • I still miss the preparations and having moments in the spot light though. I can still feel the energies of all the crowds I had the privilege of performing in front of, whether I had an outstanding performance or not. • While I never had any coach who had high level competition experience coaching me, I definitely had a handful of wonderful coaches who helped me develop as a climber and who believed in me. Those people are the ones who taught me it’s quality over quantity, helped me completely overturn my climbing style from one that was very static to that of being able to be static and dynamic, helped me condition my body in ways that was transferable to climbing, helped me see that climbing wasn’t the end all, be all, and helped my mind become stronger than I had ever imagined.」11月20日 3時12分 - chelseanicholerude
