Scotsman Albiston had represented Edinburgh and District Schools before United took him on board as a 15-year-old, and he was not much past his 17th birthday when he made his first senior appearance for the Reds, against Manchester City in a League Cup game in October 1974. His first-team run-outs were rare, however, as he developed among United's non-senior levels, until a mini-breakthrough in 1976/77 — making 14 top-flight starts among 25 senior appearances — became a major breakthrough when he was named in the FA Cup final starting XI against Liverpool at the end of the campaign. Standing in for the injured Stewart Houston, the 19-year-old full-back put in a sterling performance, helping Tommy Docherty's team to a famous victory. Albiston was thereafter pretty much a fixture in the side for the next 10 seasons, racking up a total of 485 Reds games (sixth on our all-time list at the time) and adding two more FA Cups before moving on at the end of of 1987/88, 13-and-a-half years after his debut.」12月18日 0時00分
