Police brutality is a public health crisis. It is killing our friends, our neighbors, & kids.

Why say “public health crisis?” Here are some doctors explaining why:

“1 in 1000 Black men & boys will be killed by police in their lifetime.
1 in 1000 is also the mortality rate of measles, a risk deemed so deadly, it has near constant public health surviellance & prevention.

A 2019 article in the @latimes confirmed that “getting killed by police is a leading cause of death for young black men in America.”

*Before you dare to @ me about how “not all cops are bad,” I have worked alongside officers, and count some as friends. IT DOES NOT MATTER. In working with those people, I was also privy to a LOT of conversations about the insidious nature of violence in policing. The CRs. The “badge bullies.” Do you know that 40% of police families also suffer domestic violence?? So. I’ll say it again. Systemic violence in policing is a PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS. And for no group of people is that worse than black people. The collective trauma of generations of this behavior can not be overstated.
