Libby Belle doesn’t participate in our private fox encounters at the center. While LB was bottle fed at 10 days of age and raised by humans, she would be called “tame” at best. She and her whole litter was rescued by @ansleydeneen from Keepers of the Bond. Her brother and sister are at @wildspiritwolfsanctuary . She is a captive bred US fox. She is not one of our Russian domesticated foxes. . Libby is very intense. Her fight/flight instinct is very much at the surface and she is very fearful of all new things, including new people. Her response to new things is to run around like a rocket towards the outer limits of the enclosure and she might sneak up to nip at the new thing. If new people are present during her training session, she can become so focused on her training that she ignores everyone around her. Having this little beauty in encounters would be very stressful for her and not safe for our guests. . Our center’s behaviorists closely evaluate our animals to determine 1) the safety of their interactions with people 2) how the animal feels about meeting and interacting with people 3) and if they are approved for interaction, when they are not comfortable with a person, situation, or timeframe within the event. We are always observing them and making decisions of what is best for their welfare and those interacting with them. For Libby, it’s a non-starter.
