A northern tree shrew named “Bashful" poses for the camera during a Photo Ark shoot @millerparkzoo. In the rainforests of southeast Asia, this species has a fascinating symbiotic relationship with pitcher plants. Tree shrews perch on the lid of the pitcher plant and lick nectar from the bottom of the leaf. Once the shrew has had its fill, it defecates inside the plant’s pitcher tube.
