Just one of eleven different subspecies of lions, the Southwest African, or Katanga lions, are found in the southwest region of Africa. Males like this one typically weigh between 300 and 530 pounds and have manes that are lighter in color than other subspecies. While females are significantly smaller, weighing between 220 and 375 pounds, they are responsible for most of the hunting, taking down prey like zebra, antelope, and wildebeest.
