Photo by @nicholesobecki / Making this portrait of thirteen-year-old Alla Mohammed in the main hall of the National Museum of Sudan felt eery and full of mystery. The museum houses the largest Nubian archeological collection in the world, but has been closed to the public since the COVID-19 pandemic began earlier this year. The air was heavy with dust, and a committee had to come together to open the museum doors for us. Among so many treasures, this granite statue of a baboon stood out, depicted here in an adoration pose. #sudan #history #identity
