Would you consider it a private school (of fish) if you get your very own lake? Borax Lake chub live in one of the most unusual #fish habitats in the United States. Borax Lake, once used for mining borax, is a highly variable lake fed by a number of geothermal springs and makes up only about 10 acres in the Alvord #Desert. These small desert minnows have had a lot of help over the years, starting back when they were emergency listed as endangered in 1980. Like with all #EndangeredSpecies work, years of devotion paid off. They were eventually delisted under the Trump Administration and continue to be a fascinating fish to appreciate.
