Often, when we’re in the grip of negative emotion, we’re partially paralyzed by our body’s response.

After this year, I’ve found myself struggling to manage or control these responses that come up and then continue to linger in “fight or flight” mode... Maybe some of you can relate.

What I have been practicing is awareness of triggers and taking a good hard look at the “why” while (trying to) do so from a balanced and present state.

When you take a few moments to think about your physical condition, you also give yourself a timeout to assess your emotional state from a level-headed perspective.

Stoping negative feelings or emotions in their tracks and performing a calming act such as meditation or breathing allows me to take a mental step in a positive direction.

It enables myself to process the material impact of emotions, positive and negative. From this, I’ve seen increased self-awareness & mindfulness.

This has opened up periods of “gawdamn I REALLY don’t like myself” as well as a deeper appreciation for who I am and what my potential is. (a contradicting mindfuck might I add!)

🌱 One of the fundamental premises behind meditation is that your emotional states are intertwined with your physical conditions. For myself, facing and understanding them has been uncomfortable as all hell but I’ve also never experienced this much growth because of it.

Summary: Face your demons. Balance & breathe.
