Do you know this Barbie? When they were introduced in 1959, Barbie dolls were notable because they were not baby dolls. They were free to have jobs, social lives, adventures—and the right outfits and accessories for every pursuit. While often criticized for the toy’s unrealistic proportions, lack of diversity of doll options, and promoting gender stereotypes, Barbie has also evolved with the times to reflect social and cultural changes in American culture. Recent Barbie dolls have included a scientist doing biomedical research to understand COVID-19 variants and a Renewable Energy Engineer.

What jobs did your dolls have? Tell us in comments.
