This stunning cane beetle may seem harmless, but in north-eastern Australia, it is a serious pest of sugarcane. Larvae cause the greatest harm as they damage roots which can lead to plant death. Adults also inflict damage, though less severe, by feeding on the leaves. Photo taken at Crocolandia in the Philippines.
