In Koreatown’s almost 3-square-mile radius, traditional Korean restaurants serve steaming hot bowls of seolleongtang, sizzling stone pots of dolsot bibimbap, and wide platters of eundaegu jorim inside no-frills spaces filled with utilitarian furniture.

Many of these restaurants have had a difficult time competing against pandemic challenges and ongoing development; some have found success farther flung from LA's center in satellite suburban communities like Buena Park. But without its traditional restaurants, Los Angeles’s Koreatown risks losing its identity as a vital gathering place and hub of Korean American culture.
