What does ”yakimochi”, which literally translates as ”grilled rice cake”, have to do with jealousy?😅😬🤔
It’s a play on words.😉
”Yaki” comes from ”yaku”, meaning ”to grill over a fire”.
”Yaku” also means to be “jealous of” and is used when one is struggling with jealousy, particularly in a romantic relationship.
“Mochi” means “rice cake”.
It is said that the "mochi" in “yakimochi“ comes from "kimochi" meaning "feeling".
“Yakimochi” of the ”jealous” kind is usually written in hiragana:
やき- yaki.
もち- mochi.
