This is freediver Hanli Prinsloo (@hanliprinsloo) walking a tightrope deep underwater. For three centuries, scientists believed that diving without an oxygen tank would kill you. But as you dive, your heart rate begins to slow, and gravity seems to reverse. The blood in your arms and legs moves toward your vital organs to keep them oxygenated longer, and your blood vessels engorge to prevent your lungs from collapsing. Freedivers plunge as deep as 300 feet and live to tell the tale. Learn more at on.ted.com/freediver
