In the years since, the station and its rail yards have divided #Washington, with 20 north-south tracks bisecting neighborhoods rather than linking them. Now, under an ambitious $8.5 billion plan, the air rights over the #train tracks will be developed with millions of square feet of mixed-use space, as well as parks and plazas. The new project is to be called Burnham Place, after the architect Daniel Burnham, who designed the station. “Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men’s blood and probably themselves will not be realized,” he is said to have remarked. “Make big plans, aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will not die, but long after we are gone be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistence
