Photograph by @paulnicklen //While on our way to film a deceased orca on the shores of Alaska, the helicopter pilot and I were greeted with this misty morning sunrise. It was dark, dramatic and a bit eerie but it set the mood to spend the day with an old female offshore killer whale who was laying lifeless on a sandy beach in Frederick Sound. I could only imagine what killed this wise matriarch of her family? All I know is that it was humbling to be in her presence after the things she must have experienced.
