“My favorite thing about being in Istanbul is the fact that a lot of life happens on the water,” said @dedecim, a photographer of Turkish and Armenian descent. His parents met in Nişantaşı, a district on the European side of Istanbul. They lived across the street from one another, and when they were in their mid-20s, his father asked his mother out on a date through the window of their apartments. His mother moved to Philadelphia in 1962 for school and his father followed suit. “It’s always a really interesting place for me to be because I always see it as a place that I could have grown up in if my parents had decided to stay,” said @dedecim, who tries to visit about once a year. On a recent trip back, he wandered the streets of #Istanbul in search of #streetstyle. When he took this photo, a fisherman’s boat was feeding seagulls about 30 feet from a dock where people were waiting for a commuter boat. “It was kind of like a ‘Birds’ moment for me,” @dedecim told @nytimesfashion. “The scene had a Hitchcock sensibility to it.” Follow @nytimesfashion to see more photos.
