Let’s talk about legumes ? Tonight’s dinner is a whole can of chickpeas cooked with tomatoes & herbs; along with broccoli, asparagus, toasted pumpkin seeds and a mustard miso dressing ??? One of my most frequently asked questions is how to stop bloating from beans ? Trust me, I’ve been there. When I first went plant based I was gassy AF. (Sorry @antonymaule) ? But I’ve learnt a few tips and tricks and now I can eat a whole can of chickpeas, beans or lentils and get zero/minimal bloat ??‍♀️ 1️⃣ Use dried legumes when you can to avoid any added sodium and preservatives from the tinned ones 2️⃣ RINSE YOUR BEANS. Especially if they are canned. Rinse them multiple times. Rinse those little blighters ?? 3️⃣ Cook your legumes properly. For a good amount of time, if they’re undercooked it isn’t going to end well ?4️⃣ Chew them properly to aid digestion 5️⃣ Build your way up. This is the most important one. If you’ve never eaten legumes then start having dahl 3 times a day you will shock your body with all that fibre! Start with small portions and work your way up ?? It WILL take time for your body to get used to digesting new foods. You might be a smelly mo-fo for a few weeks. But it’s so worth it.
