Phew. 2018, you started off on a rocky road. Three major things occurred in my life; harassment and threats rolled out the start of my year, followed by a surgery I was very scared of, and then I lost a dear girlfriend to climbing. •
Three things I haven’t ever experienced before and each like ? ? ? January, February, and March. •
I couldn’t climb anyway and so I thought about quitting all together. First because of all the harassment and threats...they made me hide in my shell because how do I even respond to that? @therealdoctorindianajones said it perfectly in the For The Love of Climbing episode 1 podcast by @inheadlights - fear of being ostracized from a community that I’ve been in for 20 years. •
Then I wanted to quit because climbing stole the life of my friend. And how could it do that...the thing I love so much and has built me into a strong person? •
In the end though, I can’t quit. Because I am stronger than to wave my white flag, because I will quit when I want to and not because I’m scared of peoples looks even though they have literally no idea of my truth, because my friend is with me when I climb, and because as I’ve always said, it is where I am free. •
