After my meeting with President Jokowi yesterday morning, I sat down for a dialogue at the Human Capital Summit with the President of the @worldbank Group, Jim Yong Kim.

The World Bank’s Human Capital Index places Singapore at the top of 157 economies. It recognises our commitment to invest in people – our only natural resource – through sound social policies, and more importantly, our successful outcomes. I spoke about Singapore’s journey of development from our early days as a poor country to today. Underpinning all our policies is one fundamental philosophy: that the benefits of growth and development must be distributed widely to all Singaporeans. That has enabled us to succeed and stay one united people.

We got some things right in our journey from third world to first, but our job is never done. We still have a long way to go and many things to do, to improve the lives of Singaporeans.
