If you don’t like turkey, and you celebrate #Thanksgiving in the United States, you’re probably out of luck. For the last 90 years or so, Americans have been living in an age of #turkey. According to the National Turkey Federation, the rate of consumption in the United States is roughly 5.3 billion pounds a year, with 45 million eaten over the holidays. This kind of popularity is hard to argue with. For dissenters, the tyranny of turkey is real. Our writer points out that in these divisive times — and during a holiday when many try to avoid political arguments — this is one true bipartisan issue. Republicans and Democrats alike will be offended if you say you don’t like turkey. In the vast New York Times photo archive, there are very few pictures of Americans turning their noses up at turkey. But we managed to find one, by Patrick A. Burns. Visit the link in our profile to see more photos of people — genuinely or not — enjoying the traditional Thanksgiving meat.
