Do you travel solo?
Thinking back to my last really solo trip. It was here in Alberta, Canada??. I had a rental car and drove around the Canadian Badlands, meeting people in small towns, exploring museums, natural wonders and roadside pinto bean sculptures by myself.
I was lucky enough to meet up with a few friends (like @thepeteheck, who took this picture and had to endure my hours of hoodoo jokes). But mostly I was on my own, completely open to possibility, meeting folks on the road as I went, turning strangers into friends.
Traveling solo creates a totally different experience. There's no fallback, no security blanket.
It's you, your own wits, your own navigational skills and preferences. You eat where you want to eat, learn about who and what you want to learn about, stay up as late or go to bed as early you feel like.
It's a marvelous sense of freedom and an exhilarating way to test yourself.
Have you traveled solo ever? To where? If not, what's holding you back?

Not counting that time when I went to Ontario, Canada as an exchange student at the age of 16, I have only traveled solo on weekend trips to European cities like London. I love the independence but I have some reservations about doing road trips by myself, especially in less populated areas. However, I am thinking about exploring Alberta and going from Edmonton to Calgary on my own this summer as a 30th birthday gift to myself. Do you know any special places to visit that might not be in travel guides?

I've never been brave enough, wish I had been but my daughter left the uk mid way through her 4yr degree to study in Buffalo NY for a year and she travelled alone to Toronto, Chicago, Boston, NY & finally at the end of her year she flew to San Francisco for a week before we met up with her for her 21st, then we all toured the West Coast over 3wks. Amazing & emotional time catching up. ❤️🇬🇧

I am single & no one I know likes to travel & my family doesn’t like travel either, unless it’s for work. I LOVE ❤️TRAVELING, & I LOVE ❤️ ADVENTURES, I do like traveling alone SOMETIMES, but I would rather have a significant other with me, to share the excitement of the new adventures with & have a snuggle partner. 😊😊💯💯😊😊❤️❤️

I really like solo travel. I've been to Australia twice by myself! Both times to meet with friends who live there, but with plenty of time to myself as well. I particularly enjoyed solo Amsterdam, I didn't have to compromise on seeing any museums I didn't want to, or restaurants I didn't want to try either. It's really liberating.

Yep. Partly by choice, partly by circumstances (no S.O. or friends with schedules like mine). Sometimes I go with friends but most trips are solo. Japan, UK, probably South America this year. Bonus if I know someone in the country & can visit. :-) I don't make many friends on the road bc I'm super shy & distrusting. 😂

I’m going on my first (kind of) solo trip this fall! It’s a group trip but I don’t know anyone who will be going. I’m really excited/ nervous. I feel like this is a good start to going on solo trips and a great way to meet new people and make new friends. I’m going to Europe for a couple weeks and can’t wait!!
