So I’ve been a bit M.I.A. on this Instagram account lately. You could call it a bit of digital detox - but that wouldn’t really be true since I’ve still been pretty active on one of my other accounts @thegillsgroup . I’ve actually been spending a LOT of time building that account which is for the rental cottages I own in Maine. Work put in there has translated to actual bookings (which feels GREAT) and since the first quarter of the year is when most people plan and book their Summer holidays - I’ve been putting in the extra effort to show up @thegillsgroup and post new content and answer people’s questions.

I also started an account for my ongoing ALL THE DEAD BOYS project. After my original ATDB account was mysteriously deleted I was pretty frustrated - especially when I wasn’t able to get any answers about WHY it was deleted. It’s called @all_the_dead_boys - and it’s work that is 100% personal - driven by my need to create completely free of clients or outside influence. It’s something I’ve been shooting off and on for several years and mixes my love for all things dark and disturbing with images that are both beautiful and unsettling. 🧩
Which brings me to this @カーター・スミス account. My original insta. It’s a mix of Maine and personal stuff with some ATDB mixed in. And of course my fashion and celebrity portrait images as well. Those are always the images that get the most “likes” which leads me to believe that those are the images people want to see. But I don’t wanna go by the number of likes an image receives (as tempting as it might be). Although I’ve gotten a bit used to this creative segmentation in my life (do you know any other “fashion photographers” that make full on horror movies?) - I’m curious to hear from you what YOU wanna see and read here @カーター・スミス ?

reidwaterer I like the mix of content! The Maine pics and videos are so magical and enchanting. And the ATDB stuff is super cool and wonderfully different than the boring “handsome guy” feed instagram tends to highlight. And I love seeing the celebrity shots that you are especially proud of - the ones where you felt you were able to do something special photographically too. Maybe more of those from your archive? And maybe even more just day to day captures of wherever you are. Love seeing the way you see the world when you show us your hotel room or whatever is in front of you in your day to day life. But mixing in old faves you’ve already shot from each of these areas will keep your account more active if that’s what you are wanting? I just appreciate you sharing your artistry with us all on here!

matthewsinnaeve I think you should post whatever it is that is inspiring you at any given moment. As an artist, I think it’s a disservice to yourself to do anything else. It’s human nature to enjoy being “liked” but I think by catering to what is most popular as opposed to what speaks to your soul, you will be left feeling empty. That’s been my experience anyway.

jennyanastasoff I like peeking inside creative minds so please share anything you feel the impulse to let us see. Overly curated accounts become just that, accounts, rather than eclectic expression. You have a magic, please continue to share it. ?

terencepatrick Your fashion work always had a Maine/coastal quality. It would be interesting if the ATDB style started to make its way into the celebrity work.
