They were decorated by Susanne de Court – one of only two recorded female enamel painters in the city. The vibrant ewer in the first photo showcases the jewel-like colours Court was known for. It depicts the Biblical story of Moses and the crossing of the Red Sea – in the second photo you can see the Pharaoh being engulfed in red water in amazing detail. The casket in the third photo is just 20 centimetres tall. The panels show scenes from the Biblical story of Abraham and Isaac, and the lid is inscribed with her initials ‘S.C.’ The magnificent oval dish in the last photo is decorated with the goddesses of the arts making music, and demonstrates Court’s rich gilding and vivid colours. It is inscribed with her full name – a rare example of a work signed by a woman.
