Geologist and volcanologist Brent Garry explores volcanoes on Earth to puzzle out lava flows on the Moon and Mars, making him Goddard’s “Volcano Cowboy.” For Garry, working at NASA is always an adventure. His field work has taken him all over the world, including Hawaii, Belize, Iceland, and the Galapagos Islands. To simulate lunar missions, he once lived in a rover for two weeks with astronaut Mike Gernardt during NASA's Desert Research and Technology Studies field campaign. While doing work for the campaign, Garry sometimes wore a spacesuit to simulate mission conditions, as shown in this image.
