Photo by James Balog @james_balog | I once thought I knew everything I needed to know about people and nature. As with most people who love the natural environment, I had inhaled a whole creed that shaped how I saw things. Nature was some place not inhabited by human beings, I would tell myself. Nature is “out there”; the great conservationist John Muir regularly used that phrase. Nature is an “other.” It is every place where people are not. This yarn comes to us from stories people have been telling themselves for so long that no one seems to know where, why, and how it originated. Over the course of 40 years as an environmental photographer, though, I’ve realized that things are a lot more complicated than that. Humans and nature are constantly colliding; there is no boundary between the two. Yet we still like to believe that we can separate ourselves from, and even control, nature. Our ever wilder wildfires are one dangerous reminder that this is a delusion. Follow my work at the contact zone: @james_balog

It is human arrogance that makes us believe nature is apart from us. Like we used to think the Earth was the center of the solar systen. We are as much a part of nature as any being, only different in the extent we create products we create to enhance the capabilities of our bodies and the awareness of our position on this planet these products have given us. We do not control nature it controls us and we hate that.

This idea that nature is somewhere you go is one of the major reasons we, as a species, have slowly lost our responsibility and respect towards nature. This narrative he is speaking of only serves to further the separation between us and "nature".

We cannot separate ourselves from nature; we can stop communing. Big mistake! Unhealthy- unwise. When I stop communing with nature my family becomes out of control.

Natura se regeneraza. Copii sau nepotii vor putea compara fotografia cu ce va fi dar, Dumnezeu stie pest cit timp...

Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you.
