A couple months ago when I showed up at Moraine Lake, (one of the prettiest locations on the planet) with a huge telephoto lens, people kept looking at me like I was crazy. While the lake and it’s deep turquoise hue is incredible, I was after something a little bit smaller and much harder to find. Many of the rock piles found in the Rockies make perfect habitats for pikas, which are members of the rabbit family. If you ever find yourself high in the mountains and begin to hear a high pitch whistle, keep your eyes open as you may find one of these guys bouncing between the rocks!

sannygrammy Lovely shot! We also saw them there during our holiday in 2009, when we did a short hike from Moraine Lake. At first, we could hardly see them between the rocks. They are pretty much the same colour. They are one of my favourite animals.
