It was one of the very rare occasions that I put on a dress and earrings. I didn’t know at the time but I was in a severely abusive relationship and thought that it was normal because I’d been engaged for my whole adult life. It took me 10yrs to escape and to this day I still carry the emotional scars. At the time I had no identity, no freedom, was cut off from my friends and family, held back, put down and forever told that I was unattractive and nobody else would want me. My life could not be more different today and I will be forever thankful for my freedom and a second chance to live as “me” rather than being owned and controlled by somebody so selfish and unkind. It breaks my heart to hear since quarantine reports of domestic abuse and violence have increased tenfold - but that’s only the people who have reached out for help, not those who suffer on in silence as I did - and 42% of marriages are now ending in divorce with the next six months set to see hundreds of thousands of homes hit the markets as couples separate and families are forced to sell their home - not to mention the poor souls who have lost their jobs, businesses and livelihoods because of Covid. MONEY cannot make you happy, SUFFERING in a relationship cannot make you happy, JEALOUSY cannot make you happy, CHEATING, LIES, SADISM, SEXISM, RACISM, AGEISM, GREED, NARCISSISM or any negativity and darkness cannot make you happy. What makes you happy is being THANKFUL, feeling BLESSED, recognising your WORTH and living your life with LOVE and POSITIVITY treating other people the way you’d like to be treated. HAPPINESS comes from goodness, love and hope. Until you love yourself, believe in yourself and understand who you truly are as a person nobody else can love you for “you” - don’t live in limbo and allow others to tell you who you should be.
