To get to the start of the trailhead, staff writer Oscar Boyd (@oscar.boyd) cycled from the coast to Fujinomiya 5th Station (2,400 meters), carrying all the water, food and clothing necessary knowing there’d be no support or backup otherwise. From the coast it took around 16 hours roundtrip to Fuji’s 3,776-meter peak, cycling overnight to climb through sunrise.
