This beauty is a Bornean peacock-pheasant, which is considered to be one of the rarest and least known of all peacock-pheasant species. Males like this one have twenty tail feathers decorated with blue-green ocelli which can be spread out in a fan-like display. In contrast, females are smaller and duller brown than the male, with brown irises and no spurs on its legs. Researchers once thought this species was a subspecies of the Malayan peacock-pheasant because of physical similarities, but this has been ruled out since the birds are well-isolated geographically.​This bird is part of a conservation breeding program to try and ensure the continued survival of this very rare species. ​#bird #pheasant #peacock #borneo #colorful #PhotoArk #savetogether
