Happy International Primate Day! Currently, researchers estimate that there are 704 species and subspecies of primates. All primates are found predominantly in tropical or subtropical regions. Typically, primates have large, highly developed brains, as well as forward-facing color vision, flexible hands and feet with fingernails and opposable thumbs. Primates have slower developmental rates than other similarly sized mammals and reach maturity later, but usually have significantly longer lifespans.
