Between 1973 and 1980, #AnaMendieta created the series entitled ‘Silhouettes’, which comprises a vast number of evanescent inscriptions of her own body on nature. In 'Alma Silhouette en Fuego' a cardboard figure wrapped in white cloth is consumed by fire, leaving ashes in the shape of the artist's body and representing the renewal of the soul. Mendieta's series expresses the artist's relationship with the land and reveals her interest in talking about displacement as an immigrant, as well as the feeling of not properly belonging to any place.
