If you feel awkward or embarrassed testing out weights in the gym, please DON'T feel this way. You only have to do it once, then you will be set. First of all, you need to determine your base weight. The easiest way to do this when you're working out with one of my #BBG programs, is this: ✅ If you can do 12 reps of the exercise with a weight and you find it easy, then you need to go heavier. ✅ If you can not complete 12 reps with a weight, then you need to go lighter. ✅ If you can complete 12 reps with a weight, and you feel a burn on the last 3-4 reps, then that is your base weight. You should feel challenged by the weights, but you should not be compromising your form, and you should be able to complete the number of reps. When you're in the gym, I would recommend setting yourself up in your area with your base weight equipment, as well as equipment that is one level above your base weight and one level below it, too. Then you will be able to easily increase or decrease your weights as you're doing your workout. So for example, if your base weight is a 10lb (or 4.5kg) dumbbell, then you should have 8lb, 10lb and 12lb dumbbells in front of you (you will use all of them, trust me). Then you won't have to go back and forth and interrupt your workout to find the right weight! If you're looking for a program to help you feel confident in the gym, try #BBGStronger on @SWEAT! The workouts are designed to help you build up your confidence using gym equipment and the app steps you through exactly how to use the machines and do each exercise!
