The bloody mary and its many variants aren’t the only drinks with Halloweenish names. Meet the Blood and Sand: a gorgeous Prohibition-era cocktail named for a 1922 Rudolph Valentino melodrama. This drink is said to have made its first appearance in print in Harry Craddocks’s 1930 “Savoy Cocktail Book.” Over the weekend, it made an appearance in @nytmag, with this photo by @gentlandhyers. The original recipe calls for equal parts Scotch whisky, cherry brandy, Italian vermouth and orange juice.
