Sister Noemi stepped into light streaming through a stained-glass window so that she could enjoy the sunshine. Sister Noemi is one of 5 nuns who work at St. Elisabeth’s Hospital in Lörrach, Germany, not far from the Swiss border. The photographer @fabianfiechter decided to document the lives of her small group of Roman Catholic nuns. “Patients come and go, but these women have always been there for decades,” said @fabianfiechter, who was born at the hospital and spent time there as a nursing student. “I’ve worked in different hospital, huge university hospitals without nuns. In this hospital, it’s a special spirit. It doesn’t matter if you’re Christian or not, these nuns make it familiar. It’s not like an institution.” Visit the link in our profile to see more images on the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ #lensblog.
