Meet Elwood P. Zap, postal-criminal-turned-educator for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
The hand puppet—also known as Mr. Zap—had a brief but lively career, appearing on film at multiple industry conferences. With the tagline “I will zap you” (because of course it was), he was a legendary villain who encouraged the audience to be vigilant against potential postal crimes.
Mr. Zap retired in 1979 and in 2013, one of the five versions of the puppet became the custody of our @nationalpostalmuseum. His four known associates may still be on the loose, though they are not considered dangerous.
